The STELVIO NATIONAL PARK covers an area of 130,700 hectares of Alpine territory, shared bythe Provinces of Bolzano (Val Venosta), Trento (Val di Sole) and the Lombardy Region (Valtellinaand Valcamonica). It is the largest Park in the Alps and a major European one. Below the snowcladpeaks and perpetual glaciers, the landscape in the Park’s valleys is characterized by coniferforests and pastures. The National Park was set up in order to preserve, for the benefit offuture generations, the geological structure and wildlife of this Alpine region, as well as toprotect the art, culture and history of its inhabitants.
The Park promotes scientific research andencourages touristic and cultural visits. Since 1977, the Stelvio National Park has been linkedto the Swiss National Park of Engadina. The two Parks together are a unique, large multi-nationalprotected area.The Stelvio National Park Visitor Centres of Cogolo and Rabbi organise hikes in the wildernessguided by the PARK GUIDES.
