Pejo Fonti 03.jpg
Once known under the name of “Pejo Fonti”, Pejo Terme is still one of the best known Spa resorts in Europe. Located in a delightful Alpine hollow, the location boasts a lot of hotels, establishments and restaurants, fitness courses amongst the woods, as well as winter and summer lift facilities surrounding a series of modern Spa establishments.
history
Since the 17th Century surgeons and scientists both came to Pejo “admirandum dei donum”, to analyse and enjoy the healing properties of the acidulous water from Pejo. According to Father Tovazzi the “Bagni di Pej” were already known in 1549. During the Spanish Succession war, there are documents reporting that water barrels were brought to the officials’ camps in Val di Sole. Six water springs have been identified and analysed, five of which are located at Pejo Terme and one by the old mine in Cellentino. The development of the Spa has been an ongoing business and centuries ago the water from Pejo was even sold in Moscow, was quite renowned in the Habsburg territories as well as in the nearby Italian regions.

It was later turned into a proper church, after being enlarged in 1867, whereas it took its current shape in 1955. The church was decorated by Teodoro Fengler in 1935.
a must see
An extraordinary experience, long and challenging but not too difficult, is to climb up to the 3645 metre high Mount Vioz, one of the most beautiful peaks in the Cevedale range. You may start up taking the Talenta cable car and then the Cembri chairlift up to an height of 2300 metres. Not far from the peak, at 3535 m, by the century-old Rifugio Vioz, you will find a tiny little church built in 1948 and dedicated to Saint Bernardo, which is the church rising at the highest altitude in Europe.
