Freeride
Floating over the snow in complete freedom

What's the actual definition of FREERIDE? Riding, moving freely.

No other word could better define the feeling you get when you try this sport: just imagine taking on an immaculate snow covered slope right after a fantastic snowfall in absolute freedom and silence.

Take a deep breath and enjoy the feel of complete freedom in close contact with nature along new and unexplored slopes... of course before you’ve skied through them!

Freeriding is a unique way to experience the mountains during the winter and to take advantage of a ride up on the lifts in order to start an adventurous descent of OFF-PISTE FREERIDING that will definitely get your adrenaline pumping!
And the best part is that you get to choose the route to follow!

We have to be honest though, it’s not for everyone. What do you need to try this sport?

  • You need to be an expert skier

  • You need to be physically fit

  • You need to thoroughly know how to adapt to mountain conditions in the winter and you need to know the type of snow you’re dealing with in addition to the consistency

  • You need to consult expert freeriders for suggestions and/or to accompany you on your outing

  • You need to have the correct equipment with you: an avalanche transceiver, a shovel and probe and you need to know how to use them properly

TOP ITINERARY: «LA SGUALDRINA» OFF-PISTE ROUTE IN PASSO TONALE

The SkiArea Pontedilegno-Tonale is one of the best areas in all of Italy to try freeride skiing and the «Sgualdrina» route is definitely the top OFF-PISTE route in this ski area which is located right between the Lombardy and Trentino regions.

You can easily reach the top by taking the Presena gondola lift up to the middle station or you can also continue upwards just a few meters from the Cima Presena peak. This off-piste route takes you through the upper part of VAL PRESENA, and then down along the valley to the lake bed of Lago Presena.

If you don't know the area well, it's best that you contact the freeride instructors at one of the local ski schools in the Skiarea Pontedilegno-Tonale, at least for your first few outings.

The most important thing is to understand the technical difficulty of the route and to then gradually descend without overdoing it and going beyond your own personal skills and limits.
It’s essential to know the exact snow conditions of the slopes in order to try this sport in complete safety: the local Mountain Guides can provide you with all the information you need, to start your descent in safe conditions.
